Anti-HCV Antibody Test for ROK Air Force Pilots with Elevated Serum ALT or AST Levels
Lee Young-Joon

Jung Kyeong-Cheon
Abstract
Blood samples from 129 ROK Air Force pilots with alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and/or aspartate aminotransferase(AST) elevation over 40IU/L were evaluated for anti-HCV Ab using particle agglutination method and third-generation enzyme immunoassay(EIA). Although particle agglutination test showed indeterminate results in seven cases, all 129 cases were negative by third-generation EIA. The positive rate of anti-HCV Ab could be considered as 0% in this study because third-generation EIA is known to be more accurate than particle agglutination method. In some pilots the elevation of ALT and/or AST could be explained by HBs Ag carrier(5.4%) and fatty liver, hyperlipidemia, obesity and liver parenchymal calcification(20.9%), but others showed no causative findings.
